The Sacrament of Baptism

The Baptism of your child is a wonderful blessed occasion for your child, your family and your parish family. Baptism is the first sacrament of initiation into our Catholic faith and the basis of the whole Christian life. In the Sacrament of Baptism we are reborn of the water and of the Holy Spirit, and we are invited to share in Jesus Christ’s mission here on Earth.

Infant Baptism Requirements

In order for parents to have their child baptized here at St. James, they must meet the following requirements:

1. Be registered members of the parish (if you are not registered, please call the parish office at 407-422-2005).

2. Schedule a Baptism appointment with our Baptism Coordinator, Jackie Mayo, by calling (407) 422-2005.

3. Parents and godparents need to attend a Baptismal Preparation Class before the Baptism. Classes are held the first Thursday of every month at 7:00 pm in English, and the first Saturday of every month at 4:00 pm in Spanish. (Please note - Holy Week in April will affect all class availability, no class during Holy Week.)

4. Each candidate for baptism must have at least one godparent. The godparent (s) must be:

· At least 16 years of age.

· Fully initiated into the Catholic Church (i.e., has received the Sacraments of Baptism, Holy Eucharist, Confirmation).

· A practicing Catholic (someone who attends Mass regularly, receives Communion, and is a registered member of a parish). A letter from their parish is required stating that he/she is in good standing at their church.

Note: If you have two godparents, one must be Catholic. A baptized Christian of another denomination may serve as a Christian Witness.

Baptism Times

The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated at St. James Cathedral the 1^st and 3^rd Sunday of the month in Spanish, and the 2^nd and 4^th Sunday in English at 1:45 pm.

El Sacramento del Bautismo

La celebración del Sacramento del Bautismo es un maravilloso evento para su niño, su familia y su parroquia. El Bautismo es el primer Sacramento de Iniciación en la fe Católica y la base para la vida Cristiana. En el Sacramento del Bautismo volvemos a nacer en el agua y el Espíritu Santo y somos invitados a compartir en la misión de Jesucristo aquí en la Tierra.

Requisitos para el Bautismo

Para poder bautizar a su infante en la Catedral de St. James los padres deben de completar los siguientes requisitos:

1. Ser miembros registrados de la parroquia (si no se ha registrado, favor de llamar a la oficina parroquial al 407-422-2005).

2. Hacer una cita con la coordinadora de bautismos llamando a Jackie Mayo al 407-422-2005.

3. Los padres y padrinos necesitan asistir a la Clase para la Preparación del Bautismo ofrecida en español el primer sábado de cada mes a las 4:00 PM. (NO HABRA CLASES DE BAUTISMO DURANTE LA PRIMERA SEMANA DE ABRIL DEBIDO A LA SEMANA SANTA)

4. Cada candidato para el bautismo debe de tener por lo menos un padrino/madrina.

El padrino/madrina debe de:

· Ser mayor de 16 años.

· Estar iniciado en la Iglesia Católica (i.e., ha completado los Sacramentos del Bautismo, Comunión y Confirmación).

· Ser un Católico Practicante (alguien que atienda regularmente a Misa, reciba Comunión y esta registrado en una parroquia). Se requiere una carta de la parroquia declarando que son miembros activos.

Nota: Si tiene dos padrinos de Bautismo, uno debe de ser Católico. Personas bautizadas en otra denominación pueden servir como testigos Cristianos.

Horario de los Bautismos

Los bautismos en español se llevan a cabo el 1er y 3er domingo de cada mes a las 1:45 PM.
